چکیده

Plant essential oils are being increasingly studied as a potential environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic insecticides. The insecticidal efficacy of on the cabbage seedpod weevil ( Ceutorhynchus obstrictus ), an important oilseed rape pest, has not been previously tested. We examined impact six C . via contact with dry residues leaf and flower surfaces. also effect these model non-target parasitoid wasp, Nasonia vitripennis Exposure cumin Cuminum cyminum ) cinnamon Cinnamomum verum (applied leaves) resulted in significant loss mortality immobility adults. A review of the species of Mesopolobus (Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae) associated with Ceutorhynchus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) host-species of European origin.

Four species of Mesopolobus Westwood were reared as parasitoids of Ceutorhynchinae hosts in Europe during surveys in 2000-2004. An illustrated key is given to differentiate the four species, M. gemellus Baur & Muller sp. n., M. incultus (Walker), M. morys (Walker) and M. trasullus (Walker), plus M. moryoides Gibson, a parasitoid of the cabbage seedpod weevil, Ceutorhynchus obstrictus (Marsham),...

Resource quality affects restlessness in the parasitoid wasp Nasonia vitripennis

Optimal foraging theory, specifically the marginal value theorem, predicts quicker leaving (shorter residence time) from poorer patches. One proximal mechanism for achieving the leaving is that exposure to lower-quality resources may trigger increased restlessness (proportion of time in locomotion). Which aspects of host quality, if any, affect restlessness was examined in females of the parasi...

Biology and Integrated Management of the Cabbage Seedpod Weevil in Prairie Canola Crops

The economic importance of the cabbage seedpod weevil, Ceutorhynchus obstrictus (Marsham), increased rapidly in the prairies of western Canada following its discovery in canola near Lethbridge in 1995. Since 1999 outbreaks have occurred almost annually over thousands of hectares of cropland, necessitating applications of vast quantities of chemical insecticide. Both larvae and adults can damage...

The effect of exposure to conspecifics on restlessness in the parasitoid wasp Nasonia vitripennis (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae)

When habitat quality is variable, there should be strong selection for the ability to detect and respond to the variation. Adult females of the parasitoid wasp Nasonia vitripennis (Walker) are known to increase their restlessness (the proportion of time in locomotion) both during and after exposure to a poor quality host. Doing so provides a mechanism for leaving a poor host and potentially fin...
